Taleeb Noormohamed bows out of contest for Vision Vancouver mayoral nomination

Can Taleeb Noormohamed win the Vision Vancouver nomination and become first Muslim mayor?Vancouver will not have its first Muslim mayor in 2018.

That’s because the only declared candidate for a major-party nomination, Taleeb Noormohamed, has pulled out of the race due to health reasons.

The 41-year-old tech entrepreneur and former federal Liberal candidate announced on May 23 that he would seek Vision Vancouver’s endorsement.

His only competitor was Ian Campbell, a hereditary chief and twice-elected councillor with the Squamish Nation.

“Yesterday, I was hospitalized following a sudden cardiac event,” Noormohamed said in a statement. “Doctors have advised me that rest, monitoring, and follow-up are required. I will be taking their advice. While I am passionately committed to this race and to the type of city we can be, my health must come first.”

  1. Wishing you a full recovery and yes without health we can do nothing. I pray for you and hope you will get back on track eventually. Sometimes what we want doesn’t happen due to a reason. There is a reason for everything that happens in our lives. Best of luck.
