
DURHAM — One Hundred and Seventy-three Durham Region residents were honoured by the Ontario Government for their years of volunteer work with various organizations on the evening of April 20.
The Ontario Volunteer Service Awards are given out annually to exemplary citizens who continuously dedicate their time to an organization. Any organization that has existed for more than five years can nominate an adult who has worked with them for more than five years, or a youth who has served for more than two.

- Adil Alibhai of Ajax, has worked with Ismaili Council for Ontario – Pickering for 30 years
- Arslan Amarsi of Ajax, has worked with Ismaili Council for Ontario – Pickering for 5 years
- Shani Mithani of Ajax, has worked with Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Ontario – Oshawa for 5 years
- Laila Datoo of Oshawa, has worked with Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Ontario – Oshawa for 25 years
- Farid Moosabhoy of Pickering, has worked with Ismaili Council for Ontario – Pickering for 30 years
- Arianna Dossa of Pickering, has worked with Ismaili Council for Ontario – Pickering, for 5 years
- Fareen Kanji of Whitby, has worked with Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Ontario – Oshawa for 10 years
- Fahriz Dosani of Whitby, has worked with Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Ontario – Oshawa for 15 years
- Mohamedali Dhanji of Whitby, has worked with Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Ontario – Oshawa for 5 years
- Nurbegum Jetha of Whitby, has worked with Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Ontario – Oshawa for 5 years
- Rehana Ladhani of Whitby, has worked with Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Ontario – Oshawa for 5 years
- Salea Saidaly of Whitby, has worked with Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Ontario – Oshawa for 5 years
