What Makes a Good Team? What Makes a Good Team Player?
By Faizaan Somani
Some people think working separately is faster, better, and more effective. On the other hand, I think that working in a team is more beneficial. Usually people say that a good team does their work together so they do well, I agree. A real team means a group of people who work together effectively. Good team members work with each other and contribute to the team. For example, if you play soccer and you don’t pass to your teammates then the other team can easily steal the ball and you may lose the game.
Generally, if you don’t understand something, you ask your partner. Similarly, while you are in any team you should interact well together. For having good team players, you should be able to work with each other. Good teams work together, help their teammates when needed, and give ideas to their team members. When I say working well together, I mean that you are friendly with your teammates and include him/her in the team. A team can only achieve its goal if they are able to work together. If the team achieves its goal, then this proves that the team interacted well as a group. We watch many games on TV. We see the winning and losing team, we should notice that group interaction of the team contributed to their victory. We should apply this to our routine when we work in groups. Sometimes good teams conduct discussions which provide new knowledge for the teammates.
If your team loses, it doesn’t mean that you are a bad team; instead you should learn from your loss. If you lose, then conclude why the other team won. Improve your team and practice more. After the next game you could do the same thing and one day your team will win all the good teams. This is why if people lose a match they don’t complain. The thing that the other team did which was their reason to win is the most useful lesson to learn for your team in the future.
My examples of teamwork were winning and losing, but there are many other meanings of teamwork without success or failure. Now you know what is called a real good team. I hope next time you will be a model in your team for the other players to be a good teammate. I conclude that a good team player is a person who can work with his/her teammates. Don’t miss new knowledge if you learn some from your next team.
