Canada is committed to helping reduce the number of women and children in developing countries that die from simple, preventable causes which can be addressed with proven, affordable and cost-effective solutions that most Canadians take for granted.
To this end, it is hosting Saving Every Woman Every Child: Within Arm’s Reach, an international Summit that will shape the future of Child and Maternal Health collaborations in Canada and around the world.
On April 28, 2014 at the Mount SinaiHospital in Toronto, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the Summit themes and key participants, unveiled the Summit logo and launched the official website.
The Saving Every Woman Every Child: Within Arm’s Reach Summit will bring together Canadian and international leaders, experts, civil society, businesses, academia, developed and developing countries, international organizations and global foundations to ensure that maternal, newborn and child health remains a core part of the global development agenda.
Key international participants will include:
Jakaya M. Kikwete, President of Tanzania;
Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations;
Melinda Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation;
Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization;
AnthonyLake, Executive Director of UNICEF; and,
His Highness the Aga Khan.

This is one of the best initiatives taken to cure the preventable disease in children and women. Like it is said, we all have taken for granted that in our world these kind of sickness can never happen and if it is to happen we have resources to eliminate any curable diseases in a shorter time. How wrong are we?
We have the resources to eliminate these diseases in our well to do countries but it will take time to bring in the cure. While the cure is researched to eliminate any kind of diseases, many lives will be lost and there is grief and sorrow everywhere. Therefore if we imagine about the countries which do not have resources to eliminate these in a shorter period of time, how many death would occur? Innumerable!!
This summit in Toronto about the ‘Saving Every woman and every child’ is much wanted initiative to find ways to find affordable and cost-effective solutions for the entire globe!! These kind of international symposia in Toronto will definitely bring in a common unanimity to research the causes to prevent any disease which could become a taboo in any country!
