At the Calgary Ismaili Jamatkhana Centre in northeast Calgary, the Ismaili Muslim community had their 15th annual Stampede breakfast with over 5,000 guests as well as a number of political dignitaries.
The group has partnered with the United Way for a program entitled “Achievement Through High School” program to combat the startling high school dropout rate in Alberta.
Organizer Habib Kurwa said the funds raised through book drives and canvassing goes toward a bursary for high school students facing financial difficulties.
Since the program started last year, the community organization has presented over $10,000 for the bursary.
