Mansoor Ladha, an Ismaili journalist living in Calgary, has been appointed on the Calgary Arts Development Authority (CADA) for a period of three years. The authority champions the arts as a key driver of the long term success of the city by acting as the central hub that invests and promotes the arts as a vibrant cultural centre.
CADA is reponsible for the allocation of municipal arts funding from the City of Calgary through grant programs to support operating costs and special projects for arts organisations in Calgary.
Among the major organisations funded by CADA are: Alberta Ballet, Calgary Opera, Glenbow Museum, Pumphouse Theatre, Vertigo Theatre, Jazz Society of Alberta, Orchestra Society of Calgary, Ragamala Society, Writers Guild of Alberta, Alberta Dance Theatre, Suzirya Ukrainian Dancers, Arts Gallery of Calgary,Stride Art Gallery Foundation, Brazilian Community Asso.,
Caribbean Community etc.
Mr. Ladha, who was owner of two weekly newspapers near Edmonton, published them for 25 years before he sold them to Sun Media of Toronto. Prior to that, he worked as a copy editor with the Edmonton Journal. He is the first Ismaili to be appointed on CADA. He currently works as a copy editor with the Calgary Herald.
