CHARMINAR: The blockades that kept tourists away from certain monuments inside the Qutb Shahi tombs heritage site have finally been removed after the monuments were thrown open to public on Wednesday.
The park area comprising 25 monuments was thrown open for public viewing after completion of restoration works that went on for about five years.
The restoration works undertaken by the Agha Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) included removal of inappropriate modern materials such as new concrete, restoration of authentic lime mortar, structural repairs, restoring missing stone elements and laying of granite blocks to prevent water seepage.
The inauguration of the site happened in the presence of officials of the State Archaeology Department, Tourism Department, Heritage Telangana and AKTC.
