Jacob K, March 20, 2017: For Navroz 2017 in Melbourne, us Aussie’s did what we love most. Played Cricket to see who would take out the first ever Melbourne Navroz Cup.
Four teams from all around Victoria went head to head to play 7 games in one night to bring in the new year in style.
The teams that played this year were the Qalanders, Underdogs, Warriors and Zalmi. Over 44 players ranging from 18 to 40 years of age took part in this hopefully now an annual event.
It was a successful event with good cricket, great biryani and excellent sportspersonship shown by all players.
In the end, and the early hours of the morning, the Qalanders led by Aziz Ali took out the first ever Navroz Cup held in Forest Hill, Melbourne.
The money raised through this event was used to purchase more sporting equipment for the players and the boys also decided to donate $250.00 to the Aga Khan Development Network.
The winners not only received a trophy, life long memories and friendships to cherish but they will also be going out to celebrate grand Navroz dinner by choosing a restaurant of their choice to spend $400.00 at.
From our players to yours, we wish everyone a Happy Navroz Mubarak!
