In Day 1-3, the course looked at the history of the revelation and Prophet Muhammad, the Qur’an as an oral experience, and the Qur’an as a text. The Course is now in Day 4, which is about the Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad. Day 4 features the includes:
- How the Qur’an presents different prophets and the Prophet Muhammad in particular. These modules include an in-depth look at the spiritual functions of Prophet Muhammad according to the Qur’an – which include a number of duties and qualities that most people today are not aware of.
- The concept of hadith in Sunni Islam as a means of transmitting the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
- Early Shi‘a Muslim tafsir of the Qur’an from Imam Muhammad al-Baqir, based on the IIS book Early Shi‘i Thought.
- Popular Images of the Prophet Muhammad in Muslim devotional expressions – qasidah, poetry, etc.
