Shaila Premji: Ryerson Ismaili Students Association wins Gold in dance competition

The Post-Secondary Games (PSG), is an annual sports competition, promoting health, physical activity and unity amongst the youth within Ismaili community – the Jamat.

This fun, energetic and exciting event comprises of sports including basketball, volleyball, soccer and field hockey, a spirit component where each school creates a school spirit video to represent themselves and finally a dance competition where each school comes together and creates a routine to perform for the Jamat.

The goal of the PSG competition is to create a bond between youth within each school as well as allow youth to feel a sense of belonging within their Ismaili community. This year, the competition was held at Waterloo University, where students and alumnis of Waterloo-Laurier (WLISA) came together to organize the wonderful weekend.

As a student from Ryerson university, Shaila Premji had the opportunity to represent her school from the heart of Downtown Toronto by competing in the ever-so-famous annual dance competition. The competition was quite fierce this year, with mind-blowing performances by the McMaster Ismaili Students Association, (MISA), Ottawa Ismaili Students Association (OISA), Western ISA, Ryerson Ismaili Students Association (RIMSA), Waterloo-Laurier Ismaili Students Association (WLISA), University of Toronto ISA and McGill ISA. Each school’s dance performance was very unique in many ways and all represented the individuality of each school.

Although the tough competition, and getting scored by 3 incredible judges this year, the dance team, Ryerson Ismaili Students Association (RIMSA), won the Gold medal. Closely tagging behind them was WLISA taking silver and Western taking the bronze medal. Everyone’s hard work, dedication and passion really projected on stage and at the same time showed a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood within each school.
