Shaneela Jivraj (Shallwani): Can she possibly be one of the first Ismaili born in Canada?Shaneela was born in Cochrane, Ontario in 1966 to a Pakistani Ismaili family. Her father, Mr. Nazar Shallwani came to Canada in the mid 1950’s to study at McGill University in Montreal. He returned to Pakistan in 1965 to get married and move back to Canada with his wife Perveen. They settled in Cochrane where Mr. Shallwani was a high school teacher. In 1976 her family with 3 of her siblings decided to move to Toronto.

Shaneela is an active member in the Ismaili community in Toronto serving as a vice convener for the World Partnership Walk Toronto. She also works with the special needs transportation team and Jamati bus transportation team.

Shaneela speaks Urdu, Hindi, Sindi, Katchi, Gujarati and English.

She lives with her husband and 5 kids in Markham, ON.
