Shenila Khoja-Moolji’s project on teacher education has won the Best Field-Based Initiative Award from the South Asia Special Interest Group of the Comparative and International Education Society. Shenila’s project, which is entitled, Decolonizing Teacher Education in Pakistan, was a workshop for pre- and in-service teachers organized in collaboration with the Aga Khan Education Services Pakistan and the Aga Khan Education Board for Sindh.
The project entailed designing and conducting teacher professional development seminars in the city of Hyderabad to illustrate the challenges and affordances of doing the work of decolonization. Pakistan makes an ideal site to explore these issues due to its history of colonization as well as continued entanglement in relations of dominance exercised in and through practices of education, consumption, economics, and politics.
