25% of Kitui’s populace has no formal education, this according to excerpts captured in Kitui County’s integrated development plan.
The trend is attributed to low literacy levels recorded due to high school dropout rates, inadequate education facilities, inadequate staff, low enrollment and low transition rates. This in turn affects their ability to read and write.
[…] The Yetu “Start a Library‟ initiative, supported by the Aga Khan Foundation and USAID, seeks to rally support from individuals and corporates to donate towards adopting and equipping a public school library or libraries in various public primary schools countrywide.
“We have a young girl advocate for the “Start a Library” campaign. Her name is Chela. She is on a mission … to rally for your support by either donating directly towards adopting a library or by donating for as little as ten shillings a word and becoming a co-author in the first collectively written book by a nation,” she added on to say.
