Liberal candidate Yasmin Ratansi lost her seat in Don Valley East by a whisker last time, but was on track to win it back in style.
“Why would I be nervous?” she said. “The last one was because of the anti-Ignatieff vote … I used to win by 11,000 votes.”
Don Valley East had been red since 1993 and stayed that way until Conservative Joe Daniel edged out the three-term Liberal incumbent, Yasmin Ratansi, by 870 votes in the 2011 federal election.

Ratansi, an accountant and the first Muslim woman elected to the House of Commons, hoped to retake her old seat representing one of the most diverse ridings in the city.
Nearly half of 93,000 residents of Don Valley East had a mother tongue other than English, according to the last census.
Employment was a big concern in the riding, where the jobless rate exceeds the provincial average.

Congratulations Yasmin, you deserve your win because of your hard work. You are also the leader of the riding that has the Aga Khan Campus in it (Aga Khan Museum, Ismaili Center and their Park). You are in a great position to get the new Eglington Subway Station at that location named Aga Khan Station. I hope you get a cabinet position from our new Prime Minister.
