Ratish Nanda (CEO, Aga Khan Trust for Culture, India) will share his experience leading AKTC India’s work on the Urban Renewal project in the Nizamuddin Conservation area. The project includes the conservation of over 50 monuments, environmental development of over 300 acres in the heart of the city and an extensive socio economic development programme leading to the improvement of the quality of life for more than 15,000 residents of Nizamuddin Basti.

In addition to this, he will also speak about his work at the head of the Qutb Shahi Heritage Park in Hyderabad, a project which includes the conservation of over 80 monuments belonging to the 16th century Qutb Shahi dynasty as well as 108 acres of landscape development.

For AKTC, Mr Nanda has also led the Baghe Babur restoration, a 16th century enclosed garden in Kabul, Afghanistan. His work also includes the Garden Restoration of Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi and several projects for INTACH, including the conservation of St James Church, the ruins adjacent to Sultan Garhi and unprotected monuments in the Mehrauli Archaeological Park.

Mr Nanda has received a number of awards including the Eisenhower Fellowship 2007, the Sanskriti Award for ‘Social and Cultural Achievement’, the Prince Claus Fund’s ‘Urban Hero’ the Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship and the Charles Wallace Conservation Fellowship.
