August 16, 2015 – Edwards, Ontario: Despite a hot and humid day, Ottawa’s annual Ismaili Jamat picnic was declared a huge success.
“The weather was great and so was the food and music,” said Bashir Surani, president of the Aga Khan District Council of Ottawa. “Everyone had a great time.”
Close to 900 people, most from the Ottawa area, and also from Montreal, Kingston, Toronto, Guelph and other areas attended the picnic.
“People look forward with great anticipation to this annual event,” added Surani.
Ottawa, he said, certainly puts on a terrific event with cooperation from numerous tireless volunteers to instill fellowship and promoting unity and togetherness.
“The volunteers do a fantastic job,” emphasized Surani.
Ismailis joined in communal feasting and traditional rasdas. Delicacies included ribs, barbecued chicken, bhajias, rice pilau, corn, salad, water melon and ice cream.
Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm, with the amenities it provides, is an ideal setting for this communal picnic.
Musical entertainment was provided by Karim Moloo of Toronto.
“Ottawa always welcomes us with open arms and warm hospitality,” said Amin Lalani of Montreal. “This is admired and much appreciated.”
