Meet just a few of the incredible young researchers striving to create the future of health at the new Cumming School of Medicine
Zaheed Damani: MD/PhD Leaders in Medicine
Supervisor: Deborah Marshall, PhD
O’Brien Institute for Public Health
Could lineups at airports, banks and fast food restaurants help inspire efforts to reduce patient waiting times?
“Lots of people say the health-care system is broken, but I’d say the lineup is broken,” says Zaheed Damani, a PhD candidate at the university’s O’Brien Institute for Public Health. “I think a lot of resources are available to us, but we’re not maximizing their use.”
Damani is part of the Leaders in Medicine program, which allows him to pursue a PhD and medical degree in combination. He’s researching how ideas from the service industry such as a single-entry strategy could potentially help ease health-care congestion.
