Dilzayn Panjwani: Aga Khan Museum: "Light upon Light"Promoting Art, Culture, Diversity and Pluralism

By Dilzayn Panjwani *

“The art of a people is a true mirror to their minds” – Jawaharlal Nehru

The Aga Khan Museum was opened by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in the presence of His Highness the Aga Khan on Friday, September 12, 2014.

The museum reflects the ethics and values of the Muslim minds from ancient to modern times. First of its kind in North America, the museum building is in itself an awe-inspiring sleek architectural masterpiece of Pritzker Prize-winning architect Fumihiko Maki. The 47,000 square-feet space within the milky white stone building with an open roofed courtyard, a visual play of light reflecting across walls etched with intricate mashrabiya patterns, is a feast to the eyes.
