Imagine that your loved one is in a car accident while engaging in mission work in Malawi. She is on life support; there is a fluctuation in the grid. The power cuts out.

Assuming she is in a major metropolitan area, a generator will kick in, but only after it registers the loss of power. The moment between the two events may be devastating. Many pieces of medical equipment, such as renal dialysis machines and X-ray machines, require electricity. Minimally, surgeons need light to complete lifesaving procedures. Vaccines require refrigeration.
