Aga Khan Foundation India: Sustainable Community-Based Approaches to Livelihood Enhancement

The European Union funded SCALE (Sustainable Community-Based Approaches to Livelihood Enhancement) project enabled access to safe drinking water throughout the year in Gujarat.

This programme, implemented by the Aga Khan Foundation in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan, has benefitted more than 125,000 households across 1,250 villages in semi arid regions, and promoted strategies around agriculture, livestock management and enterprise development. With a strong gender-mainstreaming focus, SCALE has enabled ultra-poor groups in project villages improve their quality of life and encouraged strong community leaders, many of them women who are leading development action in their own villages.
