Gala Co-Chair Zahra Mamdani helps raise over $1 Million for Canuck Place Children’s Hospice

Zahra Mamdani brings her experience in Vancouver’s business and philanthropy arenas to her role as Co-Chair of Gift of Time. Zahra is President and Owner of the Wear Else chain of clothing stores. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from UBC and a Masters of Science degree from Harvard University.

After graduating from Harvard, Zahra went to work for the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, then moved to New York to join McKinsey & Company where she consulted to Fortune 500 companies on business strategy. When Zahra returned to Vancouver in 1998 she worked in the Corporate Finance department at Ernst & Young and then as a venture capitalist for GrowthWorks Capital before joining her family’s business, Retirement Concepts.

It was Zahra’s passion for women’s fashion, coupled with her desire to run her own company that led her to purchase Wear Else in 2007. Zahra was a founding board member of the BC Chapter of the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs and is currently a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) BC Chapter. In addition to Canuck Place, she is a member of the Patron’s Circle for the Minerva Foundation, a founder of the BC Women’s Hospital Sparkle Gala and sits on the National Committee of the Aga Khan Foundation Canada. Zahra is mom to three children, Jenna (12), Aly (10) and Raya (8).
