Last week, while Farhana Haji was driving her son Tariq to school, the teenager asked her an important question: “Where’s Angola”?
“Somewhere in Africa, I think,” she said. “Why?”
The 17-year-old responded: “Someone just bought my app there”.
He created the Universal Equation Helper app over the summer.
Apple now sends Mr. Haji monthly updates on where in the world the app is selling.
Mr. Haji started working on the app in July, using Xcode, and was finished by the end of August.
His app has been in Apple’s app store since mid-September. It has also been released to Google’s Playstore.
Mr. Haji has older friends who have made apps. He knows they struggled with locating formulas quickly for class work when they needed it.
The Thornhill resident, too, has faced the frustration of trying to recall or locate formulas for various subjects in different places and in a hurry.
Mr. Haji also believes the app is a good cramming tool.
“It helps refresh your memory before an exam,” he said.
