Archnet is changing. After 13 years of providing an unparallel resource focusing on the built environment of the Muslim world through images, publications, portfolios and reports, a new site has been envisaged and is under development. The new Archnet, will make it easier to find the rich content at the heart of the digital library in a dynamic and robust way through a more powerful search engine and database structure.
Archnet was officially launched in 2002 as a partnership between the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It has since evolved into the largest, open, online architectural library with a focus on the Muslim cultures. Its digital archives form a comprehensive resource on architecture, urban design and development, and related issues.
In the new version of Archnet, the model has changed and certain modules will no longer exist. This will include Personal Workspaces and Group Workspaces. Membership will not be required and there will no longer be a login and password prompt. To prepare for the eventual transition of Archnet in January 2014, this is a notification to all Archnet members to please download and save any materials that are important to you from your Personal Workspace or Group Workspace prior to the end of this year. As of 1st January 2014, these modules and the materials they contain will no longer be accessible.
The new development of Archnet is very exciting and we are sure that you will enjoy the results of this effort. The unique resources and materials will continue to grow with both the addition of historic archives and documentation on contemporary building trends shaping the built environment today. We look forward to welcoming you back to the new vision of Archnet soon and thank you for your continued support and patronage.
