Joyce Hinton: EXCERPT: Kronos Quartet started coming to the Chan Centre a number of years ago. David Harrington of Kronos absolutely adores the concert hall – he thinks it’s one of the best halls he’s ever performed in anywhere in the entire world – which is pretty high praise considering where Kronos Quartet has played. They’ve broken tradition and changed how people view string quartets with their emphasis on commissioning different composers and working with all sorts of different artists. They love Vancouver audiences – they find them very adventurous and interested in what they are doing.
It\’s been a really great match with all the interesting programming they’ve been doing. We worked with them to bring in Tanya Tagaq – the Inuit throat singer. Our last event with them was with Homayun Sakhi who is an artist supported by the Ismaili Council and the Aga Khan Foundation, so we had a wonderful experience with the Ismaili Council of B.C. and doing all kinds of extra events with them in support of this concert.
