Aga Khan Development Network Representative in Tanzania wins French award – The East African

The French government last week bestowed its country’s highest decoration of Legion of Honour on Tanzanian Amin Kurji for his outstanding contribution to the development of the country.

The award, which is officially known as the National Order of the Legion of Honour, is awarded to French nationals and foreigners who have demonstrated 20 years of promoting peace or displaying extraordinary military bravery and service in time of war.

Bestowing the award on Mr Kurji on behalf of French President François Hollande, the French ambassador to Tanzania, Marcel Escure, said the event was an opportunity to recognise a person who was wise, accomplished and successful, whose leadership “we all appreciate.”

Born in Mwanza in 1954, Mr Kurji has served the Ismaili Imamat for over 25 years in different capacities.
