Dar es Salaam. France has bestowed the Legion of Honour award on the resident representative of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Tanzania, Mr Amin Kurji, in recognition of his outstanding and imminent services in promotion of the French culture, education and arts between the country and Tanzania
The award, tracing its origin to Napoleon Bonaparte back in 1802, is the highest decoration in France. It was originally given to the military servicemen but later extended to civilians who showed a great sense of service to the society.
Handing the order at a ceremony held at the French embassy in Dar es Salaam, on behalf of French President François Hollande, the country’s Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E Mr Marcel Escure, noted that Mr Kurji’s career had contributed immensely to the development of Tanzania, first as a businessman but also as a representative of His Highness Prince Aga Khan
“This order is to pay tribute to your development network, which, working as a team among its many branches, achieved already a great deal in Tanzania as well as in many countries in the world. Thus I express my most sincere and warm personal appreciation out of the friendship,” said Ambassador Escure
