September 8, 2013 – Today nearly 3,000 Chicagoans demonstrated their commitment to end global poverty in the annual Chicago Partnership Walk/Run at Montrose Harbor. The Chicago Partnership Walk/Run is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. (AKF USA) to raise awareness and funds that reduce poverty, hunger, illiteracy and poor health in Africa and Asia.
The event raised $800,000 for AKF programs worldwide. Since 1995, PartnershipsInAction activities including the annual Partnership Walk and Golf events have attracted over 410,000 participants and raised $54 million for poverty alleviation projects supported by AKF USA. 100% of all funds raised at the Partnership Walk/Run goes directly to projects supported by the Foundation; not a cent is spent on administration.
The event featured a 5K competitive Run for ages 13 and up, 1K for ages 8 through 12, and a 100-yard dash for children ages 7 and under. It included family entertainment, food, and interactive games. This year’s Walk/Run entertainment featured comments from Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, Eboo Patel from the AKF USA National Committee, Dr. Mirza Jahani the CEO of AKF USA, and a performance by renowned singer and humanitarian Shehzad Roy.
