Aga Khan University Hospital to inaugurate new medical complex: Jena Bai Hussain Ali Shariff (JHS) BuildingKARACHI: Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) will inaugurate a new medical complex here on Tuesday (today). The Jena Bai Hussain Ali Shariff (JHS) Building spreads over 84 acres of area and was part of hospital expansion initiated in 2010.

The JHS building, in its six floor capacity, will provide ambulatory care services in eleven medical and surgical specialties, including dentistry, ophthalmology, ENT, nephrology, urology, oncology, anesthesia, dermatology, surgery, gastroenterology, psychiatry, and pain management.

Constructed with a cost of USD 14.5 million, donated by individuals and donor groups in Karachi and abroad, the building will house outpatient clinics providing medical, same-day surgery and chemotherapy services. An expanded surgical day care unit will provide treatment to patients requiring minor eye, ENT and orthopedic surgery and the outpatient cancer services will also be available, equipped with new high end equipment.

In a message on the inauguration of this newly constructed building, President, AKU, Firoz Rasul said that in the last decade, the number of outpatient visitors to the Hospital has almost doubled, with over half a million visiting last year alone and the new building with the latest equipment will reduce waiting times and offer patients world class medical services.
