Canada: Prime Minister Stephen Harper announces the creation of the Office of Religious Freedom

February 20th, 2013 – On Tuesday February 19, 2013, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the creation of Canada’s first ever Office of Religious Freedom. Joining the Prime Minister was Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney, as well as many other Members of Parliament.

During his speech, Prime Minister Harper stressed that Canada would continue to play a key role in monitoring and promoting religious freedom around the world. The Prime Minister also announced that Canada’s first Ambassador for Religious Freedom would be Dr. Andrew Bennett.
