UNBC Professor Farid Rahemtulla: Ancient village reveals 1,300 years of First Nations historyStudents and professors from UNBC’s Department of Anthropology have uncovered hundreds of artifacts from an ancient fishing village on the Babine River.

Professor Farid Rahemtulla says they excavated over the summer and recovered over 400 artifacts.

“We were working about 100 kilometres northeast of Smithers right on the Babine River basically, and it’s a big fishing village that we had worked on two years ago at the invitation of the Lake Babine Nation and this time we focused one of the house remains that exist in this very very large village.”

Rahemtulla says they found everything from arrowheads made out of stone, to old flint and musket balls from firearms.
