McGill law students in project that aims to curb cyberbullying
An angry teenage boy who texts a topless photo of the girlfriend who just dumped him might not be thinking of the legal consequences of his actions — but he should be.
He could be prosecuted for distribution of child pornography and saddled with a criminal record for the rest of his life, prohibited from living near a school.
That’s why McGill University professor Shaheen Shariff — with the help of several law and education student researchers — is working on an interdisciplinary project to improve the legal literacy of young people in the social media age.
“Kids need to understand when they post something online what kind of legal risk it has,” said Shariff
