Steady Wolf and Spirits of the Land is a story of a young adolescent boy who seeks to explore the wisdom of his forefathers to be able to introduce them into his own life. He fears the loss of the past because his own life has changed. The adolescent convinces his uncle, Steady Wolf, who has a knack for the wild and the past and who has retained wisdom of his culture, to explore the backwoods life with him. With his uncle by his side and a mother who remains a close presence in his life, the young man undertakes an emotional and spiritual journey. Through this journey, he undergoes a personal spiritual and cultural transformation.
The book teaches the reader about the importance of giving value to wisdom from the past, respecting it and those who have held the narratives of the past in their hearts. It also teaches about how the wisdom of the past can be changed and refitted into the present so that culture does not remain an archaic world which is discarded and shelved.
