Former general counsel Anisa Dhanji holds three part-time judicial posts
A judicial appointment was not something I had considered when I was starting out on my legal career. For most solicitors, and certainly when I first applied over 10 years ago, it wasn’t within the range of likely options. My first appointment was to the immigration and asylum jurisdiction. I heard about the competition by chance. I had been a commercial/intellectual property lawyer for about 15 years by then. I was enjoying my work, was well remunerated and headhunters were calling, so I wasn’t looking to change direction. In fact, one thing that drew me to the competition was that the commitment was only 20 days a year.
