Emma Rahemtulla Grade 11 Mulgrave School, West Vancouver Appointed Youth Ambassador for Mikoroshoni Primary School in Mombasa, Kenya.
Mikoroshoni Primary School is a Registered Charity School located in the district of Bamburi, Mombasa, one of the poorest areas in Kenya. The school provides free education to over three hundred children ranging in ages from three to fifteen years. It also has a feeding program and provides free breakfast and lunch for the children. The school runs off of charity donations received from its donors. The Saga Charitable Trust recently made a very generous donation to the school.
Emma’s role with the school developed after she became a supporter by sponsoring education at the school. She became involved as the youth ambassador when she decided to raise money for the school. Her role involves spreading awareness and fundraising, in particular, towards the feeding program. With the recent economic crisis the program runs risk of being cut, taking away what would be for many children their only source of food.
Emma is in the midst of a fundraising campaign for the feeding program. She hopes to continue to support Mikoroshoni and its students for the years to come.
My name is Emma Rahemtulla and I am the Youth Ambassador for Mikoroshoni Primary School. My goal is to raise $1000 to support the food for their feeding program for one month.
Mikoroshoni Primary School is a small school in a village outside Mombassa, Kenya. It provides a free education for over 300 children ranging from 3 to 15 years in an area where many people live on less than $1 a day. Each student at the school is provided a free meal every day, which is for many of them the only food they will get to eat all day.
The school is completely reliant on charitable donations, and has to raise around £25,000 a year. This pays all the teachers’ wages, purchases equipment, buys all the food and generally pays for the maintenance of the school. Lately because of the global economic crisis, it has been harder to secure funding for the school. Should the school not receive enough funding, the feeding program will be the first thing to be cut.
As the Youth Ambassador I want to do what I can to raise money the school’s feeding program. My goal is $1000 for the school, which will support the food for the feeding program for one month. Once I have achieved my first goal I will continue to set new ones to support the funding of the school.
If you are interested in donating towards my goal of raising $1000 to cover the cost of one month’s food for the school, please contact me at rahemtullae@mulgrave.com. Your support is much appreciated.
