Nadir Mohamed: ‘Gentle in a tough way’ - thestar.com-Excerpt- So who is this guy who is quietly — “I’ve never heard him raise his voice; it’s tough to get into an argument with him,” said Beeston — trying to push Canadian tennis, the Blue Jays and now the Leafs to new heights?

Mohamed, never one to seek out personal publicity, was unavailable for an interview, but his friends and previously published reports portray him as sincere and caring with a self-deprecating wit.

He is a jazz music aficionado who seeks out record stores when travelling, looking for gems to add to his collection. He’s also developed a taste for blues.

He and his wife Shabin have no children, but Mohamed dotes on a 10-year-old nephew.

Mohamed’s parents, immigrants to Tanzania from India, moved to Vancouver while the teenager was at secondary school in England. He joined them there in 1971 and completed a commerce degree at UBC. He and Shabin, who met in Vancouver, are both Ismaili, a sect of Shiite Islam.
