Excerpt: Jesus, it seems, is in town from Alberta this week. The Harvard-educated mayor from Stampede country had the Canadian Club of Toronto in the palm of his hand. Mr. Nenshi spoke for 32-minutes, without notes, quoted the Aga Khan twice (reading off his iPhone), praised Canadian diversity, referred to himself as a “free market guy,” bemoaned the passing of his favourite Thai food joint in Toronto and said cities need to invest in public transportation and urban densification to avoid the demon sprawl.
It was a virtuoso performance. Even before he had said a word he elicited a response. For instance, from a woman in red: “When he got elected,” she gushed, “My Mom said let’s visit Calgary — there has got to be something good about it.”
One man asked for his autograph. Mr. Nenshi obliged, signing it: “All the best.” Others posed with him for pictures.
Chicken, rice, broccoli, sliced carrots and pudding with a maraschino cherry on top was on the menu, but Mr. Nenshi was the main course.

Politicking is rampant…..but perhaps Nenshi will have the integrity and let the fluff be, for frivolous times alone. Those who get to the top often don’t care, and play the games. Maybe there is hope.
