From the 2009 newsletter of the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland, Australia
I attended the inaugural event of the Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Australia & New Zealand’s photographic display and audio presentation of ‘AKDN- the journey’. The display highlighted 50 years of humanitarian, developmental and environmental works of the Aga Khan Development Network. The Aga Khan is the hereditary title of the Imam of the Nizari Muslims, the largest branch of the Ismaili followers of the Shia faith. The President of the Council for Australia & New Zealand is Prof. Bashir Sumar who came from Sydney with other members to join in the celebrations. This was held on 14 March at the Bribie Island Library. The coordinator for the
function was Nooreen Harris.
