Sharmeen Malik Premjee is the Resource Development Officer for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GRYD). Prior to her tenure in City Hall, Sharmeen spent two years as a Program/Development Associate with Physicians for Social Responsibility, an international NGO dedicated to environmental health and peace & security issues. Sharmeen graduated from Yale College in 2002 with a B.A. in Political Science and Ethnicity, Race, and Migration. Through a Fulbright fellowship, she conducted research in Islamic Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies and the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London, England post graduation. As her academic and professional history describe, Sharmeen remains committed to social justice in every arena of her life. She will be starting a master’s degree program in public policy during the fall of 2009 and was recently awarded a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans to pursue this graduate study.
