Dr. Ashnoor Nagji is a family physician who has chosen to provide international medical care to some of the world’s most marginalized populations. She has traveled to over 80 countries and has treated patients in places such as Afghanistan, Tanzania, India, and Pakistan.
“Medicine is a passport which enables me to be an active agent of change, locally and globally!” said Dr. Nagji. Providing medical care outside of one’s comfort zone is “not as daunting as you’d think.”
One of Dr. Nagji’s rewarding medical moments occurred while she was still a university student. Together with a minimally trained local health worker and a midwife student, the threesome delivered a healthy baby in Guyana. The idea of having health care providers attend and support a birth was a new concept for this community.
