The President and Directors of the Canadian National Committee of UNIFEM and various staff from the New York Head-Quarters of the United Nations Development Fund for Women will be present on June 1st 2010 at Parliament Hill when Minister Bev Oda and the Canadian International Development Agency will announce the Government of Canada’s plan to provide $5.2 million funding budget for UNIFEM over a period of three years to assist the organization in its innovative gender empowerment programs across the developing world.

Almas Jiwani, President of the Canadian Committee for UNIFEM states that “This day marks a momentous occasion and displays a renewal of the collaborative relationship that exists between UNIFEM-Canada and the Canadian Government. It would be an understatement to say that I stand here as a proud Canadian. Once again, Canada has done us proud by being a leader in the international community on issues of pertinent importance – helping to raise much needed attention and support for the rights of women and girls today – and tomorrow.”
