The Global Summit is being organized under the aegis of UNO, in a collective effort of the world states to meet the global challenges of the climate change after the efforts of Montreal protocol in 1987 and the Kyoto protocol of1997.There are 15000 delegations representing 192 countries of the world and 100 head of the states with also a massive participation of about 30,000 individuals including one thousand experts representing various organizations of the environmental protection.
The impacts of the global warming which is caused by the greenhouse-gas emissions, and it’s effects are felt and conspicuously noticed in every corner of the world. The current decade is reconked as the worst decade of global warming for the last 160 years. The heat-waves are melting sea glaciers in the Antarctic and glaciers in Himalaya, and turned the land in Africa parched, drought and become a cause of hurricanes in the countries of South Asia.
According to the experts the consequences of the climate change are a real threat to all Himalaya/Karakorum regions and also to the Tibetan plateau, where more than 1000,000 sq;km of glaciers hold water in the collection of land ice out side the polar region. The glaciers of Himalaya,Karakorum and Hindu-kush are streched over the (Gilgit/Baltistan and Chitral) Pakistan, China, Nepal and India. These glaciers are the main source of the longest river Indus, the Yellow river in China and the Ganga river in India. The half of the population of the world about 3 billions people are depending on the glaciers water in Asia.If the world did not take serious measures against the global warming now, the expert forecast catastrophic situation of the planet by end of this century. The world will have 40 per cent of less water by the 2030, this will create scarcity of water, which will cause the conflicts within the different countries of the world.
According to the Chinese research the glaciers in Himalaya and Karakorum are receding faster than any where in the world, because of warming temperature brought by global climate change.
The America, China,India and Brazil are the main important protagonists in this global summit. These countries consensus about the issues of the climate change, can be turn out to a positive conclusion to save the planet. The developed countries have also assured to give financial assistance of 10 billions USD to the developing countries over a period of three years.
President Obama’s military engagement in Afghanistan and his commitment to resolve the unemployment and health reform issues at home, which makes him distracted and luke-warm about the issues of global climate change. He is expected to announce in Copenhagen Summit to reduce the greehouse-gas emissions about 17 per cent below 2005 level by 2020 and 83 per cent by 2050. It is the first time on the international level there is a serious consideration to curb the greenhouse gas emissions, and cooperation with developing countries by the rich countries of the world. Most of the emissions come from burning fossil fuel, coal, oil, natural gas for energy, deforestation, and agriculture waste materials.
The climate change is one of the serious challenge of this century to the all countries of the world. The climatologists are determined to convince the developed countries that they must reduce the greenhouse-gas emissions in the coming decades, if the world is really committed to control the risk of dangerous climate change to save the planet for the future generation.
