For more than 30 years, Salma Lakhani has been married to one of Edmonton’s leading cardiologists. Though her husband’s many anecdotes have imparted medical knowledge her way, Salma is still convinced that nothing is as contagious as example.
And Salma learned early in life how to set a good one. Her own mother, Malek Rajabali, knew that when it came to children, teaching them how to lead a life of service to others was as important as teaching basic life skills. Luckily for Salma, her mother just didn’t teach, she lived the lesson every day.
“When I think of my mother I think of her absolute kindness to others. Her ability to help people in need without any expectation of return,” says Salma. “And this example is one that I hope I have successfully passed along to my own two daughters.”
There’s no doubt that this mother’s efforts took root: Both of Salma’s daughters want to shape their careers in areas where they can make a difference in the lives of others.
