The words of Alexander Korolev should resonate with every citizen of this country: “As much as we’ve received from Canada, we understand that we have to give back, we have to volunteer, and we have to try and make Canada an even better place so that other people want to come to Canada. Becoming Canadian is not a free gift. We have a responsibility to always represent Canada well.”

Korolev – profiled with his family in the story starting on the front page of today’s paper – is one of the 40 people who took the Canadian citizenship oath in a ceremony held at Burnaby’s Ismaili Centre last Thursday.

“It is such an honour to have this ceremony in such a peaceful community place,” said citizenship judge Anne-Marie Kains. “We have to thank the Ismaili community for sharing this with us.”
