Dr. Shelina Babul has been with BCIRPU for the past 12 years and is involved in various injury prevention strategies and initiatives as well as sport & recreational research development. She is also a clinical assistant professor and teaches a graduate level course in the School of Population and Public Health. Dr Babul is involved in: 1. addressing critical gaps in the field of injury prevention, 2. identifying the need for quality and comprehensive injury data, 3. injury prevention research and 4. the coordination of injury prevention efforts in the province.
In addition, Dr. Babul is a co-investigator on a study that will examine the association between bicyclists’ injuries and the cycling environment (primarily the types of route, including integration or separation of the cyclist from motorized or pedestrian traffic; types of intersection; and presence of car parking and junctions). Her academic and work experience has involved in-depth cardiovascular and sport & recreational-related research, including the publication of numerous chapters and papers, presentations at various provincial and national conferences, committee memberships and review boards, as well as being interviewed by various print, radio and television media.
