Farhad Daftary has been affiliated since 1988 to The Institute of Ismaili Studies, London, where he is currently Co-Director and Head of the Department of Academic Research and Publications. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in the US from 1958-71, receiving his doctorate in 1971 from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a consulting-editor of Encyclopaedia Iranica, co-editor of Encyclopaedia Islamica, as well as general editor of “Ismaili Heritage Series” and “Ismaili Texts and Translations Series”. An authority on Ismaili history, Dr. Daftary is the author of more than 100 articles and numerous books, including The Ismailis: Their History and Doctrines (1990; 2nd ed., 2007), The Assassin Legends (1994), A Short History of the Ismailis (1998) and (with Z. Hirji) The Ismailis: An Illustrated History (2008). Dr. Daftary’s books have been translated into Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Urdu and numerous European languages.
