On Sunday, a record number of Calgarians teamed up to help fight poverty half a world away.
Mayor Dave Bronconnier was the guest of honour and cut the ribbon to begin the World Partnership Walk at Prince’s Island Park.
The walk takes place in nine cities across Canada, but in Calgary it set a record this year.
Nearly 6,000 people took part and raised $800-thousand.
Organizer Shanaz Bhimj says the money raised goes to fund projects that help fight hunger and poverty in developing nations.
