Mumbaraki to all Ismailis on this honour of a Cantab (Cambridge) Doctor of Divinity degree on our Imam. I noticed for the first time in the press releases (as here) the hereditary name (after the 2nd beloved Imam, the martyr of Kerbala) spelt with an A. Of course Arabic/Indian names can be rendered every which way, but we have to be consistent with proper names, especially when it pertains to our Imam. Barack Hussein Obama wouldn’t like it. He wouldn’t like it if his first name was rendered Barak – like in “proper” Arabic – when he went to glorious Al-Qahirah.
Oh, a minor quibble. Let’s bask in the reflected glory of Mawla.
Vali Jamal, BA Cantab
