North Shore resident Rashid Fatehali has been honoured once again for his volunteer work with youth.
Fatehali is the leader and founder of the Lower Mainland Ismaili Youth Extreme Adventure Group, and 14 of its participants received the Duke of Edinburgh awards on May 2.
They were handed out by B.C. Lt.-Gov. Steven Point in a ceremony at Government House in Victoria.
Fatehali started the Adventure Group in 1986 and has remained its leader ever since. His North Vancouver home serves as the headquarters and there are 66 members from ages 14 to 25.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program is an international project for young people, which promotes self-reliance, responsibility and the pursuit of a well rounded lifestyle.
Participants must achieve certain standards in four areas: community service, skills, physical recreation and adventurous journey.
