THE Under-Secretary General of the United Nations, Prof Anna Tibaijuka, has challenged institutions of Higher Learning in Sub Saharan Africa to spearhead quality education to bring about development in the region.
She was speaking yesterday as a chief guest, during the fourth graduation ceremony for the Aga Khan University-Tanzania Institute for Higher Education (AKU-TIHE).

She also called for joint and pragmatic effort among all key stakeholders, to increase a number of health workers especially in public sector.
The president of the Aga Khan University, Firoz Rasul, said that at least 74 students graduated in general nursing programme, 76 earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing, 21 got Master in Education and one received Master of Medicine.
“Our partners and supporters have seen an opportunity to assist a generation to gain a quality education, that will enable them to make a difference in their communities,” he asserted.
Aga Khan University (AKU) is part of the Aga Khan Development Network and it has grown to become an international University with campuses in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the UK.
