Thousands of Ismaili Muslims lined the streets of downtown Vancouver Monday night to welcome the arrival of their spiritual leader, the Aga Khan.
It was quite the scene; even the Vancouver Police Pipe Band played as his motorcade pulled up in front of the Pan Pacific Hotel.
When he stepped out of the car and onto the red carpet, it was a magical moment for the many onlookers, including Imran Ishani, “It was great, it was amazing. It was pretty brief, though. It was just a few moments but it was, excellent. Like, this kind of reaction is a once in a lifetime experience and it’s just beautiful.”
Vancouver is the final stop in the Aga Khan’s eight day, four-city Canadian tour to celebrate his 50th Jubilee.
He began the trip in Ottawa last Tuesday, with stops in Toronto and Calgary in between.
Today he’s expected to draw a crowd of over 20-thousand for a religious gathering at BC Place Stadium.
